Sarah Edwards in 2016’s ‘30 Under 30’!
Sarah Edwards was recently recognized by DRAG ILLUSTRATED as one of the top “30 Under 30” drivers in drag racing. The contest was voted on by racing enthusiasts, fans and peers whom nominated young racers in the sport that represent and encompass drag racing’s future stars.
Hanna Motorsports sought out Sarah in the fall of 2015. Sarah had seen the Queen of Diamonds jet dragster at the age of twelve and aspired to drive the 300 mph machine ever since. With her parent’s support, she graduated Frank Hawley’s School of Drag Racing in Gainesville, FL and followed with the purchase of a comp dragster. Sarah always had a further vision of driving something quicker and faster.
After 4 years of racing the comp dragster, fate would knock on Sarah’s door. Al Hanna, 50 year drag racing veteran and president of the 3 car Hanna Motorsport Jet team, contacted Sarah about driving her dream car. The relationship was something that was almost meant to be starting with a dream from a young girl 11 years earlier. After interviewing Sarah, the Hanna’s hired her to drive the new Queen of Diamonds II revolutionary side driver jet dragster without hesitation based on her ability, focus and ultimate long term vision in drag racing.
“Sarah had the drive and determination we were looking for in a driver as well as her youth and great social skills which are a must in attracting corporate sponsorship” Al Hanna voiced about hiring Sarah. Al’s son Rich added that “…she showed a quick learning curve in adapting to the machine and seemed to be a natural right from the start”.
Sarah’s rookie season with Hanna Motorsports in 2016 lived up to expectations as she set several track records and won over 90% of her exhibition races. She was an immediate fan favorite and was an excellent corporate representative for her associate sponsor GOJO Hand Cleaner as well.
The future looks bright for the young “Queen of Diamonds” in the rough. Sarah’s “30 Under 30” nomination from DRAG ILLUSTRATED and its followers is an honor but also a recognition that has been very well earned over the years as well!
